Reporting a problem

Something is wrong with the job and you cannot fix it yourself. This tells a manager, and keeps the problem attached to the job.

Nothing. You can report a problem on any job on your board.

1Press the red triangle

Along the bottom of the card there is a small red warning triangle.

Press it. Type your PIN if it asks.

2Choose what kind of problem it is

The screen is headed Report an Issue.

Pick the Issue Type that fits best:

Type Use it when
Material Shortage You have run out of something, or there is not enough
Machine Fault Equipment is broken or not working properly
Quality Reject The work is not good enough to pass on
Design Error The drawing or file is wrong
Measurement Error The sizes do not match what was measured
Supplier Delay Something ordered has not arrived
Power Outage Power loss stopped the work
Other None of the above
Note

Choosing the right type matters more than it looks. It is how the problem reaches the person who can actually solve it — a material shortage and a machine fault go to different people.

3Choose how urgent it is

Severity What it means
Low Worth knowing about. Nobody needs to come now.
Medium Should be dealt with today.
High The job is stopped until somebody helps.
Critical Work is unsafe, or the whole line is stopped.
Warning

Be honest about severity, in both directions.

Marking everything Critical means nothing is critical — people stop reacting. Marking a genuinely stopped line Low means nobody comes.

4Say what is wrong

Title — a few words, so it can be recognised in a list.

Description — what happened, in your own words. Write what you would say to the person if they were standing next to you.

Press Submit.

5It has been sent

A message says Issue reported — manager has been notified.

What happens next

A manager is notified straight away. The problem appears on the office’s list of issues, attached to this job, so whoever picks it up knows which job it is about.

Nothing else is needed from you.

If the job is now stopped, put it on HOLD as well, with the reason — reporting the problem does not stop the clock on the work.
