SNB Production WorkflowGuideThe Shelf List

The Shelf List

Every shelf on the count, searchable and filterable. This is where you start, and where you come back to find the four things you missed.

Opening a count lands you here rather than on the counting screen, and the order is deliberate: Count walks a bay end to end, and this is how you find one particular thing.

Three tabs sit across the top — Items (this screen), Count and Summary.

1Read the top of the screen

Two numbers and a bar: 16 / 49 counted on the left, 49 shelves on the right, and the progress bar under them.

Then a search box. It searches the name, the code, the size, the thickness, the category and the SKU, all at once — typing 4000k or SC-140 or strip all find something.

Why it works this way

Search, the chips and the sort never contact the server. The whole list is sent to the phone once when the screen opens, and everything after that happens in the handset.

On a warehouse hotspot a round trip per keystroke is the difference between a list that feels instant and one people stop using. Roughly 300 shelves is about 45KB — sent once, then free.

2The filter chips

A row of chips under the search box. The first three are always there:

Chip What it shows
All 49 every shelf on the count
To count 33 the ones nobody has entered a number for
Counted 16 the ones somebody has

Two more appear only when they apply — New, for shelves added during this count, and Needs info, for shelves somebody left a note on. Then one chip per category on the count, each with its own total.

Note

The chip row scrolls sideways. On a narrow phone Needs info and the category chips are past the right-hand edge — push the row left with your thumb rather than concluding they are missing.

3Sort, Select and Add

Under the chips, a sort picker with five orders:

  • Shelf order — the order the count was seeded in: category, then item. Roughly how the stock physically sits, which is what makes walking it bearable
  • Name A→Z
  • Category, then name
  • Not counted first — the one to use when you are closing a count out
  • Highest count

Select turns on tick-boxes, and + Add puts an item into the count that is not in the catalogue. + Add is only there if your role may create stock items.

4Read a row

Each row is one shelf: a photograph if one has been taken (a ▦ placeholder if not), the item’s name, then its code, size, thickness and category on the line beneath.

On the right is the count — the number and its unit — or – if nobody has counted it yet. A counted row carries a green stripe down its left edge.

Two small tags can appear beside the name. NEW means the shelf was added during this count. ! means somebody left a note on it.

The 📷 button at the end of a row adds a photograph without opening the shelf at all.

5Marking a run of empty shelves

Press Select. Tick-boxes appear on every row and a bar opens at the top with All shown, Clear and one red button: Mark selected as zero.

You are asked to confirm — Record 6 shelf/shelves as empty? — and then each one is recorded as a count of zero.

Why it works this way

The screen states its own limit: “Counting a run of shelves that are all empty is the one thing worth doing to many at once. Anything else is per shelf.”

Zero is the only quantity that can honestly be the same for a dozen different products. Anything else applied in bulk is a guess wearing a number’s clothes.

And recording zero is not the same as leaving a shelf uncounted. Zero says somebody looked and there was nothing there; uncounted says nobody looked. The first changes stock when the count is applied. The second does not.

Press Select again — it now reads Done — to turn the tick-boxes off.

What happens next

Tap a row to open that shelf on its own, or go to Count to walk the bay shelf by shelf.

Note

Your place is remembered. The search text, the chip, the sort and even how far down you had scrolled are kept per count, so coming back from a shelf does not drop you at the top of a list of 300.

The screen also keeps the phone awake while it is open — a count is not improved by unlocking the handset every forty seconds.

If it goes wrong

What you see What it means
No shelves match The search or a chip is excluding everything. Clear the search and press All.
A row reads (unnamed) The item has no name in the catalogue. Count it anyway; fix the name under Inventory → Stock Items.
No + Add button Your role cannot create stock items. Count what is on the list and tell a storeman about the rest.
Mark selected as zero is dead Either nothing is ticked, or the count is no longer open.
A category you expected is not a chip Chips only list categories that are actually on this count. A count can be scoped to a few categories when it is opened.
