Waiving The Deposit
Deciding that this customer is not asked for money up front — and taking it back.
A waiver is a recorded decision to skip a requirement on one job. Three things can be waived: the site visit, the quotation, and the deposit. This page is the deposit.
A waiver is never a deletion. The requirement still exists; the record says somebody decided it did not apply here, who, when and why.
1Only one of the two is ever offered
| In the menu | Means |
|---|---|
| Waive the deposit | no deposit has been waived on this job |
| Ask for it after all | one has, and this takes it back |
They are never both there. Which you see tells you where the job stands.
2Waiving
The panel is headed This customer is not asked for a deposit, and the reason is required.
What the deposit was is frozen into the record.
The amount that would have been asked for is written onto the waiver as it stood that day. The job’s value changes afterwards — amendments, re-quotes — and the waiver still says what was actually forgiven at the time.
Without that, a waiver written against 1,000 would silently become a waiver of 4,000 the moment somebody added work.
The job’s payment status becomes deposit waived, which is a settled state: it stops reading as money outstanding on every screen that shows it.
3Taking it back
Ask for it after all needs its own reason.
Revoking writes a new record; it does not erase the old one.
The original waiver stays, with its reason and its author, marked as revoked. Both facts are true — it was forgiven, then it was not — and the manual would be lying if only the second survived.
What happens next
The payment status is recomputed immediately, and both the waiver and the revocation go into the activity trail.
Nothing is gated by any of this. A job with an unpaid deposit can still be approved, generated, released and built. Money is reported throughout the system and refuses nothing — see Waiting for a person, where it is shown next to the deadline for exactly that reason.
If it goes wrong
“The deposit requirement is already waived on this record.” Revoke the current waiver first. Two live waivers for the same requirement cannot both be true.
“That waiver has already been revoked.” Somebody got there first. The job is already back to expecting a deposit.
The action is not in the menu. Waiving is its own permission and is deliberately narrow — it is a decision about money.
The payment badge did not change. It is recomputed when the waiver is written. If it still disagrees, the job’s invoices and payments are what it is reading — see The money.
